Canalys in Market research company released a report on Thursday, which shows that the first quarter of China's smartphone market shipments fell 21% year-on-year to 91 million units and it is the largest decline in a single season.
Canalys said in the report that among the top 10 smartphone manufacturers in China, only Huawei and Xiaomi's shipments in the first quarter increased. The export of Jinli, Meizu and Samsung Electronics all fell more than 50%.
Canalys said that Huawei continued to be the leader in the Chinese smartphone market in the first quarter. The company's total smartphone shipments in the Chinese market in the quarter were 21 million units, up 2% year-on-year, accounting for 22% of the market. OPPO and vivo ranked second and third, and both companies' shipments fell by about 10% to 18 million and 15 million. After giving the fourth position in the market to Apple in 2017, Xiaomi re-squeezed Apple in the first quarter, ranking fourth in the Chinese smartphone market. Millet's shipments in the quarter increased by 37% year-on-year to 12 million.
At present, the top four manufacturers in the Chinese smartphone market are local manufacturers, which together accounted for more than 73% of the market share in the first quarter. Apple is currently ranked fifth in the Chinese market with a market share of approximately 8%. In addition to the top five vendors, the remaining vendors collectively account for only 19% of the Chinese smartphone market. Canalys believes that in the current market environment, China's smartphone market is expected to be further integrated.
